According to KPCB, mobile internet users in India surpassed desktop/laptop internet users in May, 2012.

  • According to Google, the number of users accessing internet by using smart phones in India is more than that in USA. 

  • In India, 56% of the smart phone users access internet multiple times per day compared to 53% in USA. 

  • Out of the total users accessing internet using smart phones in India, 59% are males & 48% are females. 

  • Over 75% of users in India visit social networking sites using smart phones.

  • It would be interesting to note that 36% of the smart phone users in India are in the age group of 18-29 years.
  • It is predicted that mobile internet users will grow up to 600 million by 2020.

  • About 55 % of the claimed mobile internet users are in top 8 metros. These are Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune and Ahmadabad.

This shows that there is a huge scope for mobile internet business as mobile internet users have already surpassed desktop/laptop users. Along with smart phones, tablets are also getting rapid popularity. Hence in future majority of the users are going to use internet using their smart phone or tablet.
